Reflection of ES2007S(Final Post)

Reflecting upon this module, I find time passed very quickly whenever I attend this class. Perhaps this is due to the class being highly interactive, especially through the various activities that we need to participate. This class enabled me to widen my social circle and sharpen my communication skills. In addition, the small class size allowed the tutor to follow up and help us improve individually.

Firstly, my communication skills were enhanced through this module. It allowed me to gain insights on how to communicate with others as well as observing and interpretation of other’s responses. I also understood that communication is not just about talking but also about whether the message is translated across correctly and accurately. In addition, non-verbal cues are also important in communication, e.g. facial expressions are reflective of the person’s thoughts and responses. .

Secondly, this module also enhanced teamwork collaboration. Class activities were conducted by having four members in a group and rotated every week to ensure that everyone have a chance to work with everyone else. Furthermore, these activities help built up interpersonal relationships through supporting and encouraging each other during the process. We were also assigned projects to do which required us to plan ahead of time and cater to constraints of our group members. This kind of collaboration is reflective of the real world where teams are often formed to get specific tasks done.

Thirdly, I was exposed to the 7Cs in writing in this module. It sharpened my writing skills which are useful when I enter the workforce upon graduation. Through this module, I learnt to be more complete, concise, clarity, correct, concrete, coherent, and exhibit courtesy in my writings. It also taught me how to write a good resume and personal bio-data. In addition, I was also able to express my thoughts in the blog clearly and comment on other classmate’s blog post in a friendly and courtesy manner by not using strong words on them.

Fourthly, my confidence had increased since the reading of this module especially through oral presentation and peer teaching. Although, my stage fright was not completely overcome, it had improved significantly. The module had provided me with an opportunity to face my weakness and improved on it.

In conclusion, I had gained valuable lessons from this module. Although I am quiet and soft spoken, I enjoyed interacting with my classmates during class. All these experience gradually built up my confidence level and communication skills when facing other people.

Hi Eileen,

Great post overall, clearly written and nicely structured.

I believe our class size is considered big as we merged a few times if I remembered correctly.

Just another note, facial expressions may not reflect a person's thoughts/responses. (eg. me). So it is still best, not to judge a person too early if you are to work with him/her for a considerable period of time.

I would like to say that it is a pleasure knowing you. All the best for your final exams!

Regards,
Pak Ming

Hi Eileen,
It is great to know you and being in the same blog group for the past 13 weeks. You were always the first one in the group to publish posts, and I enjoyed reading your post every week. In my opinion, you are a person who can always handle the situation without a panic. Good luck to your exams!

Last but not least, all the best and take care!

Dear Elieen,

A very well written final reflection, I am glad that you have learnt a lot from this module. The first people I met in this class were you and Pak Ming. I feel that you are very friendly, though it was the first time meeting you; we managed to make jokes and laugh :)

I would like thank you for your comments as well, your comments have always been very detailed and well thought. Frankly speaking, I am not a person who thinks too much of a situation. I tend to go with the flow many a time which I feel I should change. I feel you have helped me improve on this aspect. Thank you very much. I am really glad I met you and good luck for your future :) Do keep in touch :)

Cheerios,
Keerth ^^

Dear Eileen:

Its really nice knowing you. Having worked with you in the same group for both peer teaching and the final project, I think you are really a nice and organized person. Although you get easily stressed out at times and start to 'freak out', I feel that in a way, it helps to get things done and stop all procrastinations and I do appreciate that.

I'm glad you have become a more confident speaker. I still remember vividly, the first day we met, you were really very quiet(which is not really the case in actual fact haha..) but I guess it takes familiarity and time for some people to open up. After looking through the OP video, I think you have improved. I believe with more practice, you should be able to do better. Don't worry too much about it(if you do feel stress, I can offer you chocolates!)

Anyway all the best in all you do.

Regards,
Jessica

PS: Thank you for bearing with my nonsense and untidiness!

Hi Eileen,

It has really been a pleasure to work with you during the interview and nice knowing you as a friend too. Like what you mentioned, this module tested our writing, verbal and nonverbal skills. With the rushing of deadlines, we were required to have the 7C’s of communication and applied teamwork to excel. However, without such practises, there would not be many benefits along the way. It might end up like other modules that we took before. I guess from the flipside of being stressed out, the friendships forged could make up for it.

Before bidding goodbye, I hope that we can work together some time, learning more from one another’s strength.

Tsetchem Leshalom

Sincerely,
Wei Xiong
